Please read the submission specifications that follow for more information and then click the link above to complete an entry form to submit your artworks to the jury members. Members may enter up to two pieces of artwork highlighting science and nature-based subject matter to be displayed at the beautiful Red Butte Garden.

Submission dates: February 17 - April 3, 2020

Exhibition title: GNSI 2020 Members’ Exhibition: Nature’s Palette

Exhibition dates: July 3 - 12, 2020

Venue: Red Butte Garden, on the second floor of the visitor center. Nestled in the foothills at the eastern end of the University of Utah campus, Red Butte Garden is the largest botanical garden in the Intermountain West region and it’s also a state arboretum! Visitors can enjoy over 21 acres of gardens and hiking trails in this natural area.

Note that attending the conference between Monday and Wednesday will mean free access to the gardens between 3pm - 9pm and during the exhibition opening reception!

Eligibility: Open to all GNSI members of good standing. Entries must 1) have been created within the last five years, and 2) not have been accepted into a previous GNSI conference exhibit.

Mediums permitted: Original artwork, gallery quality prints, sculpture, or multimedia work created either with traditional or digital techniques or a mix thereof.

Submissions: Two (2) entries accepted per GNSI member.

Submission format: Digital files only

For Still images:

  • Minimum of 2000px in the longest dimension
  • Sculpture: one object can have 2 image views entered to fill the entry form (representing 1 entry only)
  • Image formats: JPG (80/100 quality or better), PNG, TIFF
  • File size: 5MB or less
  • 30”x 30” maximum size for hanging display

For Multimedia:

  • Animation submissions: MOV, MP4, in 720p or 1080p. Submit still image representation and provide link to animation file if animation is larger than 5MB. JPG format, minimum: 1500 x 1500px - maximum: 2400 x 2400px, file size max: 5MB each image.
  • Interactive submissions: Flash, 3D objects, 3D web interactives, etc. Submit still image representation and provide link to interactive file if animation is larger than 5MB. JPG format, minimum: 1500 x 1500px - maximum: 2400 x 2400px, file size max: 5MB each image.

Notification: Acceptances or regrets will be sent via e-mail by Nancy Hart, Off-site Exhibition Coordinator.

Art delivery: June 22 - 26, 2020

Presentation: All pieces must be matted, framed (Plexiglass only) and wired for hanging. Absolutely no glass, saw tooth or clip hangers.

Shipping and insurance: Detailed delivery requirements will be provided with acceptance notices. Artists are responsible for the cost of shipping and insurance to, and from the venue. While on site, artwork is insured by the venue.

Sales of works: Sales not accepted.

Publicity and catalog: Images submitted for this exhibition may be used in a catalog, or for publicity in print or electronic form for the exhibition, and may be used for promoting the exhibition before, during and after its run without further permission being sought.
